Tanzania is know for its big game parks and safaris and this is quite the advantage for our guests. Spectacular reefs, unusual underwater rock formations, and huge variety of marine life provide great opportunities for spearfishing that has barely been touched. Bluewater species abound in the warm, clear water just off the beautiful coast.

Spearfishing is by spearguns, slings or pole spear and is freedive only.

LOCATION:  Tanzania, East Africa, on the Indian Ocean.  Airports to arrive to are Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.  Pick up from there for diving in the Dar es Salaam vicinity or in Zanzibar.  In Dar you can connect by internal flight (we can organize internal connections) to other dive areas such as Mafia, Kilwa, and Mtwara.  All dive destinations are within minutes of destination airport.

DIVING CONDITIONS:  Water temperatures range between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius throughout the year, with cooler temperatures from August – October and warmer ones from November to April.  Dive destinations are located close to continental shelves therefore having clear water throughout the year, ranging between 20 – 50m throughout the seasons.  Being that the company specializes in blue water hunting, most diving is done in deep offshore water although some diving is done off shallow reefs having deep drop-offs.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL:  As the company specializes in blue water hunting and restricts the taking of reef species such as Parrot Fish, Grouper, Unicorn Fish, Sharks, Rays, and many others, this destination is for relatively experienced divers targeting sport fish such as Wahoo, King Mackerel, Giant Trevally, Green Jobfish, Dorado, Billfish, Yellowfin Tuna, and Dogtooth Tuna.   Dive sports range from within 5 nm – 25 nm from your accommodation, depending on location you choose.

SPECIES ENCOUNTERED:  On drop offs throughout the country; Giant Trevally, Barracuda, Golden Trevally, Bluefin Trevally, Bigeye Trevally, Dogtooth Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Green Jobfish, Emperors, and King Mackerel.  On offshore locations and deep reefs; Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish, Black Marlin, Striped Marlin, Dorado, Greater Barracuda, and Dogtooth Tuna.

(To see pictures of these fish, please use the English name for species here:  http://anglerweb.com/species/fishingspeciesindex.aspx )

BOAT & ACCOMODATIONS:  Lodging is organized in quality lodges/resorts at different dive locations throughout the country; Tanga, Pemba Island, Unguja (Zanzibar) Island, Mafia Island, Dar es Salaam, Kilwa, and Mtwara.  Rooms are clean, comfortable, have mosquito nets, running water (most have hot water), and have kitchens that serve quality food. Most lodging can be seen online when choosing the dive location.  Some specialty itineraries to remote areas call for camping, which is organized for comfort by the company.  Boats are a 25’ centre console with a 170 HP inboard turbo diesel and a 15’ power cat with 2 x 40 HP outboards.  The company charters other boats if necessary to ensure comfort, safety, and reliability during charters.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES:  Surfing, sport fishing (combo charters with spearfishing), hiking, horseback riding, cultural tours, mountain climbing (Kilimanjaro and Meru), and trips to the country’s famous National Parks – Serengeti, Ngoro Ngoro, Selous, Katavi, and many more - are all available and can be organized by the company.

BEST TIME TO VISIT:  From August 1st to December 15th and from February 15th to March 30th.

COST /LENGTH OF STAY:  This is a medium to high-cost destination.  No minimum stay required.
